Maintaining educational standards during COVID-19
For the safety of our school communities, we decided to physically close Arbor Montessori Academy and North Austin Montessori School for the period between mid-March and June of 2020 in response to COVID-19. During that time we implemented a unique and very tailored, Montessori Learning from Home model.
We spent that period closely monitoring CDC and Federal guidelines, as we began to offer limited capacity in-classroom students as well a virtual learning program for students at home.
We saw a tremendous outpouring of support from families who worked from home, as we understood the necessity of keeping children engaged and learning during that time.
Please see below how we implemented a very special time of Montessori Learning From Home for our students and families. Our Directors and staff showed incredible hard work and dedication to create our unique program.

Weekly Take-Home Materials
We assemble take-home lessons and activity packets according to our weekly theme for families to pick up outside our school every Monday. This is a great way to keep our students engaged at home with material throughout the week and provide them a chance to see their teachers from a safe distance.
Our Montessori take-home packets include: Customized lessons for Toddler and Primary ages, handmade Montessori materials, language practice, math exercises, science projects, Spanish lessons, arts & crafts, and exploration activities.

Zoom Classes + Virtual Content
Our teachers live-stream daily Zoom classes to engage our home-based students educationally and socially. We supplement these interactive sessions with teacher-produced media content and videos that focus on the weekly theme.

A Glance at Ocean Life Week
We fill our Toddler and Primary class take-home packets with a mix of educational and fun content to facilitate everyday, hands-on learning, creativity and exploration.
Safety Protocols
We continued supporting our tenured staff and families by offering a "hybrid" Montessori Program. We operated at limited capacity for in-school students and continuing our remote learning program for students at home.
Our school communities took extra precautions including temperature checks twice daily, change of indoor shoes, frequent hand washing with touchless soap dispensers, maximized outdoor time, modified pick up and drop off routine, and distanced separation during individual activity time.
